One week before the daily routines of life were uprooted and theatre faced unchartered territory worldwide, we are thankful to have performed The Wizard of Oz. We do not take for granted the blessing that we did not have to postpone, nor altogether cancel our Spring production due to COVID-19, like many schools, community theaters, and professional theaters in the Cincinnati area. Our CCS community gathered together for two student matinees. We also had four public performances, three of which were sold out. During this time of unknown challenges, it was a gift to perform a well-known and cherished production for our families and dear friends.

In a Saturday audience, we hosted the Cappies of Greater Cincinnati, and they had wonderful responses to our production. Here are some quotes:

“As the cast took their final bow, the ensemble laughed and smiled with high-fives and fist-bumps to spare. It was wonderful to see how strong the cast bond appeared to be. This demonstrates the success of Cincinnati Christian High Schools’ production of The Wizard of Oz, proving that home is with those you love right beside you.”

“The tireless work of the cast and crew made for an unforgettable experience.”

“This musical went beyond the expectations for a high school production, and every cast and crew member should be very proud of what they did with this show.”

Theatre at CCS is often a beautiful reminder of what the body of Christ should look like. It is a space that allows talented capabilities on the entire spectrum. Theatre is not just about acting, but about showcasing and utilizing the gifts of all who help bring the production to life. Just like the Church, a theatrical production demands commitment, sacrifice, and the support of one another to achieve the same goal: glorifying God with who He has made us to be and with what He has blessed us to be able to achieve. The cast and crew members in the CCS theatre department use their God-given talents to share the love of Christ, uphold a commitment to excellence, and work together to create, inspire, and delight.
