DIBELS
Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills. (Dynamic Measurement Group, 2005) DIBELS is valuable because we can use the results for early intervention, to target the building blocks of early literacy, and focus assessments on indicators for successful reading.
At Cincinnati Christian Schools, we give DIBELS to the children in Kindergarten through the third grade. The three times measures are given are:
September 24th - 26th
January 22nd - 23rd
May 12th and 13th
