HOME 2 SCHOOL CONNECTION
Cincinnati Christian Schools, Inc. offers a program which is designed to combine many of the advantages of home school instruction with a traditional secondary school program. This Home 2 School Connection allows students who are currently receiving home school instruction to receive many of the benefits which may be available only in a traditional school environment.

Students may enter the Home 2 School Connection in one of two levels:

The Menu Service Program allows home school students to enroll in as many CCS courses as classroom size allows. Students are charged an application fee and a fee for each course taken. Students will receive a standard CCS report card and interim report, but a permanent record of course work will not be maintained by the school.Menu students are not officially CCS students and are therefore not eligible for extra-curricular or similar activities. Menu students are responsible for all CCS behavioral and academic guidelines, as outlined in the student handbook, while attending classes.

Students entering the Satellite Program technically cease to be home school students and officially become CCS students. Satellite Students are charged an application fee, a Satellite Student fee (which includes one on-campus course), and a set fee for each additional course. Students must take at least one on-campus course and may take as many courses as classroom size allows. The remainder of the students’ course work is completed in independent home school instruction which is consistent with the program’s accountability requirements.Because Satellite Students are officially CCS students, all of their course work, both on-campus and home school instruction, is maintained in a permanent file by the school. Satellite Students are eligible for extra-curricular activities (athletics, drama, etc.), mission trips, National Honor Society, and many other programs available to CCS students. Satellite Students may earn a CCS diploma and participate in the commencement activities with other graduating seniors. Satellite Students are not eligible for Valedictorian and Salutatorian honors or for election as class officers.

ACCEPTANCE
Students are accepted into both levels of the Home 2 School Connection in the same manner that traditional students are accepted into the school. Please refer to the Admissions Procedure instructions which are included in a standard application packet.

Application for the Home 2 School Connection is open to all students who have been registered as home school students in the previous year for a full year and who otherwise meet eligibility requirements for CCS students. Students who are currently enrolled as full-time CCS students or students at other schools are not eligible for this program.

SATELLITE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

PARENT AVAILABILITY
The parent who will be serving as home school instructor (parent/teacher) must not have employment that precludes fulfillment of the duties outlined in this program. The parent/teacher must also agree to meet with the Satellite Program Director at each quarterly grading and interim period (eight meetings per year) and abide by all the regulations set forth as part of the Home 2 School Connection.

TEXTBOOKS
CCS will provide the family with the same textbooks and workbooks that students receive on campus. Each class also has a course of study with pupil performance objectives. Textbooks are to be turned in the last week of school.

CREDITS
Students are required to register for a minimum of six credit hours per year. Students must meet all of the graduation requirements set up by Cincinnati Christian Schools, Inc. and the State of Ohio, including passing all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test.

REQUIRED HOURS
720 total hours must be logged in for the school year. The minutes and hours spent on each subject should be logged in by the day, week, semester, and year. 120 hours may be added for each credit taken in school (60 for each _ credit). A minimum of 120 hours is also needed for each full credit taken at home, 60 hours for each _ credit. All course work must be completed between the date that registration is complete and the last of the day of the school year.

GRADE SHEETS
Parent/teachers are required to calculate grades by letter (A+, A, A-, etc.) and by percentage (95%, 80%, etc.) as defined by the CCS grading standards. These grades are to be included as part of the quarterly meeting with the Satellite Program Director.

All graded material and course work is subject to review by the Satellite Program Director and the academic advisor assigned for each subject area. Each parent/teacher may determine how the grades are calculated and the percentages attributed to each category, but tests and/or major projects must constitute at least 50% of the student’s grade.

ACCOUNTABILITY OPTIONS
Because Satellite Students are officially CCS students, all course work must be certified by the school as consistent in quality and content with parallel on-campus courses. Options for each course must be approved by the Satellite Program Director at the time of registration and may not be altered during the course of the school year. Tuition amounts are not affected by the options chosen.

Parent/teachers will be given the same texts, course of study that the classroom teacher uses in each subject. Students receiving home school instruction must demonstrate mastery of the material just as students on-campus are expected to do. At each quarterly review, the parent/teacher shall indicate how mastery was identified. After an initial review by the Satellite Program Director, relevant course material may be reviewed by an academic advisor appointed for each academic subject. The academic advisor may be asked to approve or recommend changes. Recommended changes may include raising/reducing a grade based on the quality of student work submitted or indicating course material which has not yet, but should have, been covered. Final decisions concerning completion of course work and appropriate grades will be made by the Satellite Program Director. All approved course work will be noted on the permanent record as “Independent Study”.

At each quarterly meeting with the Satellite Program Director, the parent/teacher shall provide for review the following:

1. All major tests (at least two per quarter) and major projects completed. These must constitute at least 50% of a student’s grade.
2. Record of hours and minutes logged for each course daily.
3. Indication of student mastery of appropriate pupil performance objectives through oral or written evaluation.

At each mid-term there will be a phone conference to check on progress and address any complications.

The Satellite Program Director may approve a high school course completed through another accredited, Christian educational institution, either on-campus or by distance learning. Approval will be limited to courses having the same academic philosophy and rigor as the classes they replace. Transfer credit will be awarded when CCS receives official notification that the requirements of the class have been met. Students must receive approval for this option before beginning any work. Parents must be aware that other accredited agencies may teach courses that do not emphasize the exact requirements necessary to pass the Ohio Graduation Test, so care should be taken in choosing what classes to apply to this option. Any expenses associated with this option will be the responsibility of the parent, but tuition costs will remain the same. All course completed under these accredited agencies will be noted on the permanent record as “Home School Credit”.STANDARDIZED TESTS
Satellite Students must take all national and state standardized tests which are required of CCS students. These include the Stanford Achievement Test for grades 6-9, the Ohio Graduation Test and PLAN test for grade 10, and the PSAT for grade 11. All expenses for these tests will be the responsibility of the school. Scores below the 50th percentile on national tests or more than one failing grade on the OGT may cause students to be disqualified for continuation in the program.

PORTFOLIO
In regard to home school instruction, a portfolio of the student’s work must be turned in at the end of the fourth quarter. At least two quality examples (major tests, papers, projects) per subject per quarter are required.

HONORS AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES
In order for Satellite Students to receive GPA credit for honors classes, those classes must be taken on-campus. Similarly, AP classes may be only completed on-campus.

POST SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
In addition to the “other accredited agency” option indicated above, Satellite Students may participate in the PSEO. As with all aspects of the Satellite Program, participation is open only to students who have been registered as home school students in the previous year. In other words, a student may not be in a traditional high school classroom and opt to home school and take PSEO in the following year under the auspices of CCS. PSEO students still must meet all CCS requirements as well as the home school on-campus requirement.

Participation in PSEO does not alter the tuition and fees required of all Satellite Students. State regulations limit the number of PSEO courses allowed to any student, the CCS guidance office will determine the number of courses allowed each student.

ATHLETICS AND OTHER EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Satellite Students are eligible for all CCS athletic programs and many other extra-curricular activities. In the case of those teams or activities with a hard limit on participants, the total number of Satellite Students in any one team or activity may not exceed 50% of the participants. For the purpose of this program, a varsity team constitutes one team, and a JV team constitutes a different team.

Satellite Students must be enrolled in an on-campus class while their team is in training, practice, or competition. Satellite Students opting to participate in athletics and drama must also pay the same extra participation fee that applies to all on-campus students.

Participation in the Satellite Program is not linked to successfully making or remaining on an athletic team or other activity. A student may not try-out for a team until after he/she has been accepted into the Satellite Program. No assurances are given to students who join the Satellite Program that they will make a team or receive a certain position on that team.

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
The services of the guidance counselor are available to all home school students. It is the family’s responsibility to stay in touch with the guidance counselor with regard to testing (OGT, PLAN, PSAT, etc.), PSEO options, transcripts, and other school related issues.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The home school student is expected to meet all of the general student requirements as outlined in the student handbook. These include, but are not limited to, service hours, dress code, code of conduct, memory verses, National Honor Society, etc.
