How horrible would it be if in a terrorist attack, an act of war, your children were taken from you! That is exactly what happened to Daniel and his friends when the Babylonians took the brightest and the best Israelite children from their homelands and brought them to Babylon to be trained and enslaved in a totally different culture. I was thinking about that with friends and we all agreed that we are glad that is not our situation today.
OR is it?
The attack on the existence of God and God as creator has run rampant. Make sure you see the movie, Expelled, by Ben Stein and see how the ideas of God have been totally pushed out of education.
Carolyn Porco, a senior research scientist at the Space Institute in Boulder, Colorado made it very clear in a lecture to science teachers, “Let’s teach our children from a very young age about the story of the universe and its incredible richness and beauty. It is already so much more glorious and awesome and comforting, then anything offered by scripture or God concept I know!”
This times 100’s is what children and the public system are dishing out today. Add the influence of media, advertisement and materialism, the lack of authority and absolute truth, and you have a combination of belief and behavior that is totally foreign and counter to the historical, traditional, Judeo-Christian culture that was part of the founding of this great country.
It would actually be easier to spot the enemy if he were bearing guns and swords like Daniel’s day. But instead, the “enemy” surrounds. The powers and principalities are, in fact, out to get our kids and steal our culture.
I praise the Lord that your kids, CCS students, have the opportunity, like Daniel, to stand up and say “I purpose in my heart not to defile myself” (Daniel 1:8).
That commitment along with Daniel’s early training keeps him wise and productive in an alien culture for the next 70 to 80 years of his life. The Lord honors Daniel in his comments (Daniel 10:12) that from those early days in his life to the point of old age he has been faithful and diligent in fighting for truth in an ungodly culture.
That is the kind of life-long commitment you want for your children and that is the purpose of a CCS education! Our job, and we love to do it, is to provide Bible-centered, quality educational programs to equip, train, and disciple your sons and daughters to follow Christ and impact culture!
It is a war out there and we must be prepared! I am thankful to have hundreds of parents and families partner with our 685 students to win this battle. Pray for God’s favor on CCS in the 2008/09 school year. It has been a great start, but we have a lot of work to do.
